Five NY House Members Involved In Minor Plane Collision

A plane carrying six members of Congress experienced a minor incident on the ground at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport recently.
According to Representative Grace Meng (D-NY), who was onboard, the wing of their American Airlines plane bumped into another aircraft as it was preparing for departure. Rep. Meng confirmed via social media that all passengers and crew were safe following the incident and were waiting on the tarmac.
Reagan National is one of the country's busiest airports, handling numerous daily flights just outside the nation's capital.
The lawmakers involved included five representatives from New York:
- Nick LaLota (R)
- Grace Meng (D)
- Adriano Espaillat (D)
- Ritchie Torres (D)
- Gregory Meeks (D)
Representative Josh Gottheimer (D) from New Jersey was also on the flight.
While expressing relief that no one was harmed, some Democratic members linked the incident to broader aviation safety concerns.
"I'm grateful no one was hurt today, but this incident underscores this urgent need [to] restore all FAA jobs that keep our runways safe," Rep. Meng stated.
Rep. Espaillat added, "Aviation mishaps are at an all-time high, and the Trump administration’s reckless decision to fire FAA control staff has put us all in danger. We are thankful that no one was injured and that a catastrophe was avoided."
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) released a statement confirming they are aware of the incident and will conduct an investigation.
American Airlines confirmed both aircraft involved were theirs and stated they have been temporarily removed from service for inspection.
